There are two types of employee benefit plans. An experience based plan, where premium renewals are based on the claims made throughout the year by the group plan itself.

The other option is a pooled benefit plan. A pooled plan spreads the risk of renewals with several other group benefit plans in Canada. By spreading the claims risk with many group benefit plans, this provides a higher level of protection from extremely high renewal premiums. This plan design is primarily open to businesses with 9 employee lives or less.
